‘North Pole Christmas Adventure’ raising funds for cold weather shelter

A St. Joseph church is offering a “North Pole Christmas Adventure” for families during the next few weekends in December.
First Lutheran Church, 302 S. 10th St., is hosting events where families can “travel through the clouds on a magical elevator to meet Santa Claus in his workshop at the North Pole.” Families are being asked to enter through the south parking lot door of the church.
The events are from 2 to 6 p.m. on
Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday, Dec. 8
Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 15
Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22
The cost is $15 per family or a free-will offering. Funds raised are going to Community Missions to help add an extra month to the Cold Weather Shelter in Downtown St. Joseph this winter.
Kids can speak and have their pictures taken with Santa Claus in his family room and adjacent workshop. There also will be games and hot chocolate.
“Congregation members have been working since summer to create the illusion of travel with a very realistic ‘window’ video in the elevator room seemingly taking families from the lower level of the church, up the stairs and then into the magical elevator which rises through church steeple to the North Pole before opening to Santa,” First Lutheran Pastor Sami Pfalzgraf said. “All features and props have been donated or created by the volunteers.”
Registration for the events is not required, however, times can be reserved online at flcsj.org by navigating to the North Pole Christmas Adventure tab.
