On Thursday morning, a Turkey Trot invited community members out to get some exercise before indulging in Thanksgiving meals.

The 5k run/walk was to benefit Sertoma, the Noyes Home for Children and the YMCA of St. Joseph.

The event on Thanksgiving Day began at the St. Jo Frontier Casino and drew people, and dogs, of all ages.

Stephen Greer has participated in a few Thanksgiving 5k races over the years. He shared why he decided to run this year after not running as much as he used to.

“I used to run a lot, but then my sister asked me to go running with her,” Greer said.

Greer also said that he wanted to exercise before having Thanksgiving dinner.

“I feel better about all the food I eat after, later in the day,” Greer said.
