Loess Bluffs Eagle Days set for Dec. 7 and 8

By NewsPress Now
Community members can learn about and see eagles at a special event coming up at the Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Missouri Department of Conservation will host the 45th annual Eagle Days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, at the refuge near Mound City. The event is free and open to the public.
World Bird Sanctuary staff will present live eagle shows each hour at the refuge headquarters. There will also be interpretive stops along a driving tour of the refuge wetlands. Guided bus tours begin each half hour.
Spotting scopes will be set up at key points so people can see wildlife far out on the marshes. Interpretive stations along the tour route will include displays about mammals, bald eagles, snow geese and other waterfowl, and the Friends of Loess Bluffs will have outreach tables.
Besides eagles, visitors will be able to see trumpeter swans, geese, ducks and shore birds.
Weather will impact the number of birds at Loess Bluffs but often wildlife is plentiful during Eagle Days, agents said. For current bird survey numbers and event information about the Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge, visit https://short.mdc.mo.gov/Zt2.
