Doniphan County’s inaugural community baby shower was held Saturday morning, providing supplies and education for expecting families and infants up to six months old.

The event in Troy, Kansas provided everything that would usually come from a baby shower, including clothing for infants, blankets, baby supplies and more. Everything supplied to the families was donated.

Wanda Moore, one of the organizers of the baby shower, shared why the Doniphan County health department decided to start this event.

“This will be something that, some of your moms are never going to get a baby shower,” Moore said. “So we want to make sure that that baby and that mom have everything they need to start out.”

Moore explained more about why she wanted to help put this event together.

“For me, it takes it back to when I was a teenager and pregnant and needing the things, so for me it hits near and dear,” Moore said. “We want to just make sure all those mamas have everything they need. And, as a community, I am thrilled with everyone showing up and just showing out and donating and wanting to make sure that we have everything we needed to have for these families.”
