One organization is aiming to “strike out” cancer for its 11th year in a row.

Strike out Cancer St. Joe MO is holding its first fundraising session on Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

A second session will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“We have about 11 teams with us here tonight,” said Kitty Karr, the event organizer. “I have 10 or 11 for Sunday also.”

There can be four to six bowlers on a team and the cost is $25 per person for bowling and shoe rental to be paid on the day of the event.

An online silent auction with bundles of different items will be available on the Strikeout Cancer St. Joe MO Facebook page as well, until Oct. 29.

Funds raised during the two sessions and the live auction will go toward assisting cancer patients with the purchase of many things a long the line of their treatment.

Some of those include the cost of medication, transportation, lodging and amenities.

“In the last 10 years, it’s (the event) raised over $100,000 that stays locally in St. Joe,” said Karr.

Although the bowling event is typically scheduled in October, Karr said she wants people of all cancers to feel supported.

“The way the events happen in St. Joe…September is always Southside (fall festival), paint the parkway pink…” said Karr. “I wanted to make sure that people with all cancer, you know, get support. Not just for breast cancer.”

Karr said she will also have a raffle for some tickets to the Chiefs versus Raiders game.
