On Saturday, River Bluff Brewing celebrated Speedliner Day by showcasing several of the boats in their parking lot.

Speedliners are wooden racing boats originally produced by General Marine Co. in St. Joseph.

Steve Schomburg, who has a special connection to Speedliner, shared what the boats mean to him.

“My father’s the one who designed all the wood Speedliners,” Schomburg said. “I boat raced and won national championships with them. I still love wood. Even though I’m retired, I still love wood.”

One of the display Speedliner boats, of which only six were ever created, will be donated to the new Children’s Discovery Center.
