Early Saturday morning, runners from around the area came out to participate in the St. Joseph Marathon.
Beginning at Civic Center Park, the event included a marathon, half-marathon, 10k and 5k race.
Marathon and half-marathon runners took off through downtown St. Joseph starting at 7 a.m., with 10k and 5k runners starting at 7:30.
First-time marathon runner Scott Keegan said that he ran for a cause.
“I’m running for Team World Vision to raise money to bring clean water to people who don’t have it in third-world countries,” Keegan said.
Jaymon Meikle ran his first half-marathon at the event Saturday morning.
“Just to be able to say that I’ve been able to do it,” Meikle said. “I’m excited to give this a go.”
Keegan shared that he believes this event is beneficial for the community.
“I think it’s a good community event,” Keegan said. “It brings a lot of people out here just to get to see, especially, different parts of St. Joe and especially downtown. So I think it’s a great event for the city.”
