Bodies Race Company is an organization that brings fun, family and fitness all across the country.

Sunday’s race in St. Joseph was known as the “Do not Stop” or “Donut Stop” race, where participants could choose what each phrase meant to them.

Participants ran in different race categories like 5k, 10k and half marathon.

There were even mile runs and a kids race available to participate in as well.

Either way, the race event allowed for different levels of participation for everyone, and at the end, some received medals and challenge pins, but everyone received a donut after finishing.

Lisa and Araina Brummett have been doing races together for 14 years now.

“We do 5k’s and 10k’s and half marathons all over,” said Araina Brummett, one “Donut Stop” race participant. “She’s (Lisa) my aunt and we’ve been running together since I was like seven.”

Lisa Brummett, who also participated in the race, says running races is a tradition that she loves to participate in with her niece.

“We ran her first 5k together, we ran her first 10k together. We were supposed to run her first half marathon together, but I had an injury,” said Lisa Brummett. “So it just … it motivates me being older to continue running and racing and staying fit. And then it’s just something that we love to do together.”

Chelsie Thurman, who is the Race Director for the “Donut Stop” race, says that’s what running this race is all about.

“It’s just something fun and quirky, we give all of our runners donuts at the end of the race,” said Thurman. “It definitely brings more family oriented people in, which is what we love.”

Thurman says, whether your young, old, big or small, human or not, racing is something that brings people together.

“We love to bring in people of all race experiences and all that stuff, from beginners to advanced,” said Thurman. “We love bringing them all in, encouraging them all to come out, families, dogs, everybody.”

The next race that Bodies Race Company will be bringing to St. Joseph is the ”Spooky Sprint” Race in October at Krug Park.

Anyone is invited to sign up and there will be a costume contest, food and drinks, Trick-or-Treat aid stations and more.
