“Time to Paddy” 5K celebrates St. Patrick’s Day

By Kendra Simpson
While some slept off their St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, others decided to rise with the sun for the “Time to Paddy” 5k, 10k and lucky 13.1 half marathon.
Over 100 racers wore their best shamrock greens and braced the freezing temperatures Sunday morning to earn a finisher medal and Time to Paddy t-shirt. Awards were given to top placing finishers for men and women, age divisions and the “Biggest Paddy” team.
The host company of the race, Bodies Race Company, focuses on “bringing fun, family and fitness to communities all across the country” regardless of the racer’s age, prior racing experience or ability.
“We love to do it like a community, Race Director Chelsie Thurman said. “We have a lot of walkers, runners, joggers, people bring out their dogs, their kids and everything. It’s just a fun time.”
While St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday usually celebrated with a pint of Guinness, participants of the run were at the starting line ready to race before 8 a.m..
“It’s a nice day (to) come out and enjoy it,” Thurman said. “The celebration doesn’t end until we say so.”
The next Bodies race will be the “Donot Stop” 5k and 10k happening 8 a.m. April 28 at the Bode Ice Arena. To learn more about the racing company and upcoming races, visit their website at bodiesracecompany.com.
