See St. Joseph: Meditate, party, run, repeat

By Kendra Simpson
Whether you’re working on resolutions or just looking for a fun night on the town, there’s plenty to keep you occupied this weekend in this week’s edition of See St. Joseph.
To start the new year off on the right foot, The Yoga Room is offering a free introductory meditation class. Matt Todd will lead the group through meditation practices at the Yoga Room, 1202 Felix St. The class will include a discussion of meditation, the different methods and an opportunity to try them out. Everyone can walk away knowing how to start medication practices tailored to their particular needs. Class begins at 11 a.m., following First Saturday yoga, which begins at 10 a.m.
Creative Arts Productions will be hosting a make-and-take craft event at Nesting Goods, 615 Felix St., to support its upcoming production of “Lion King Jr.” This summer camp has been a part of the St. Joseph community theater scene for years. Kids ages 8 to 18 can take part and learn about fine arts every summer with different productions. Join CAP at 10 a.m. Saturday at Nesting Goods to make a craft, get more information about camp and support the children’s theater group.
Blake Camp will be performing solo at Magoon’s, 632 S. Eighth St., from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday with a $10 cover charge, while Hammertoe & the Fun Guys will be performing at Jake’s Steakhouse, 620 Edmond St., also from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Both of these performances will be a great opportunity to have a drink, spend time with friends and enjoy some live music.
Be sure to get plenty of rest, however, because Sunday will kick off with the Time Travel Half Marathon. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a first-time participant, this event promises an adventure. The event offers a half marathon, a 5k, a 10k, an untimed 1-mile and a kid’s dash so everyone can participate, regardless of experience. Meet at the starting line at 9 a.m. Sunday at Riverwalk North, 2202 Waterworks Road. To register for any race, visit the website at runsignup.com.
From meditating to crafting to partying to running, St. Joseph never seems to run out of activities to keep us busy. Check out next week’s edition of See St. Joseph for more upcoming events, performances and activities.
