Students from around the region visited the Missouri Theater on Thursday to experience the Saint Joseph Symphony’s Youth Concerts Day.

Young at Art offers interactive concert experiences and musical exposure for elementary students and young adults to familiarize them with each section of the orchestra.

These concerts are open to all youth, including public, private and home school students.

Over 1,000 students from the region attended the concert to develop a sound for different musical instruments. Symphony board leaders say is important in teaching the youth about music and fine arts.

“It’s one thing to see a recording of it on YouTube, but getting to experience that powerful orchestral sound live, it can be a very moving experience,” said Matthew Bobela, vice president of the St. Joseph Board of Directors. “It might even inspire some of our students to become musicians themselves and participate orchestra, band, middle school, high school, whatever it may be.”

Even if students don’t choose a profession in the fine arts, the Saint Joseph Symphony wants more of the youth to develop an appreciation of fine arts.

For anyone who missed this year’s concert day, it will return once again next year for northwest Missouri students.

The association will hold upcoming events for the holiday. A full schedule can be found at https://saintjosephsymphony.org/.
