ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- St. Joseph is seeking candidates to fill its open municipal judge position following the death of Ted Elo.

City officials announced that Elo, a longtime city attorney and St. Joseph's municipal judge since 2022, died at age 65 on Sunday.

Qualified individuals are encouraged to submit a resume to the City Clerk by email to pheyde@stjosephmo.gov or in person at Room 303 in City Hall, 1100 Frederick Ave., no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15.

Applicants are required to be at least 25 years old, licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri and a resident of the city for at least one year before any appointment to office. In addition, no person who owes any back taxes to the city is eligible to hold office.

All submissions will be reviewed and potential candidates will be interviewed. City councilmembers will vote to appoint a replacement for the remainder of Elo's term.
