A St. Joseph man is charged with unlawful use of a weapon in a September incident that left the victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

Dakota Ballentine, 20, is being held without bond in the case. He is charged in a shooting that happened at about 10:40 p.m. on Sept. 18 at 1211 S. 18th St.

When officers and emergency crews arrived, they found the victim unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds, according to a probable cause statement. Ballentine was arrested nearby without incident.

During their investigation, police determined Ballentine pointed a gun at the victim, who was standing in the street just outside their vehicle in front of Ballentine’s home, and fired multiple times, court documents said.
