A teen will spend 30 years in jail for his role in the murder of a 15-year-old boy last year.
Jackson Lee Griffith, 19, learned his fate Monday afternoon after previously pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the June 15, 2023, shooting of Carter P. Smith, whose body was found near 28th and Commercial streets.
Several people were captured on video arriving at the area and leaving on foot after the shooting. A witness identified those involved in the incident, according to a probable cause statement.
Griffith is the first of two teens with sentencings scheduled this week in Smith’s death. Teontre Kirby, who also pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, is set to appear for his sentencing at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 24.
A third person in the case, 17-year-old Kaden Wilfong, was sentenced in August to serve 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in Smith’s death. Police found items related to the shooting, including bloody clothes, guns and a bag belonging to Smith, in Wilfong’s home soon after the murder.
