A Platte City man will spend 19 years in prison for creating and possessing child pornography and molesting a child.

Timothy D. Lowery pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor, two counts of possession of child pornography and third-degree child molestation and was sentenced on Oct. 4.

The child victim told a teacher about the abuse, which subsequent interviews determined involved being molested and nude photographs, Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd said. Images of the child were found on the defendant’s phone after a warrant was served, he said.

“Images of child sexual abuse are not merely pictures,” Zahnd said. “On the contrary, every such picture documents horrific sexual abuse, and we’ll do everything we can to ensure those who make or share those images spend substantial time in prison.”

The Excelsior Springs Police Department and the Platte County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case.
