Weapons charge for man in Walnut Street police call

By NewsPress Now

A St. Joseph man was in court Tuesday morning for a hearing on a weapons charge related to an incident that brought several police officers to a home near 20th and Walnut streets late last week.

Kevin Goodwin is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. Associate Circuit Judge Rebecca Spencer set a preliminary hearing for him at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 during his appearance Tuesday.

Goodwin had a loaded gun at about 6:10 p.m. on Sept. 13 from which he was able to fire a shot while inside his residence, according to a probable cause statement. Previous felony convictions prohibit him from having a gun, court documents said.

He is free on a $5,000 bond.
