A hearing for the man who threw a dog off an Andrew County bridge has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. July 30.

Arnold D. Thomas has been charged with the Class E felony in his second subsequent offense of animal abuse by torture and/or mutilation while the animal was alive.

Deputies found the female pit bull, which was still alive at the time, below a 15-foot drop from the Dillon Creek bridge on County Road 375 on June 9 and it was taken to M’Shoogy’s Animal Rescue. When interviewed by deputies, Thomas admitted to taking the dog, which he believed was dead, wrapped in a comforter and dropped it from the bridge.

Veterinarians at Angel’s Vet Express attempted to save the animal through various surgeries. However, the dog eventually succumbed to her injuries.
