A man is facing charges in a Sunday evening stabbing that sent the victim to the hospital in need of emergency surgery.

Brandon Kleppe, 37, is charged with second-degree assault and armed criminal action in the incident, which happened in the 2600 block of Penn Street. Officers were called to the hospital at about 10 p.m. where the victim was being treated for a single stab wound to the abdomen.

Kleppe was named by witnesses as the person who stabbed the victim during an altercation, according to a probable cause statement. He was said to have cleaned blood from his body and still had some on his sweatshirt when police arrested him early Monday in the 2300 block of Mitchell Avenue, the court documents said.

Kleppe is being held without bond and is set to appear at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, May 9, in front of Associate Circuit Court Judge Rebecca Spencer.
