Recipe corner: Spiced hot chocolate

This delicious spiced hot chocolate recipe from 1954 is a real treat on cold days.
Spiced Hot Chocolate
4 squares unsweetened chocolate (4 oz)
1 cup boiling water
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 quart milk
1 cup whipping cream, stiffly beaten
- Cut the chocolate into small pieces and add to boiling water in a large saucepan. Heat until the chocolate is melted.
- Stir in the sugar, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg and stir until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is hot.
- Slowly add the milk and mix well. Remove from the heat when the milk is hot and fold in 3/4 of the whipped cream.
- Pour into cups or mugs and garnish with whipped cream puffs with an additional dash of nutmeg or cinnamon.
