Local 8-year-old donates savings to ‘help the babies’ at Safe Haven Baby Box

SAVANNAH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- A young student from Andrew County donated over $100 to the Safe Haven Baby Box at Savannah's Fire Department.
Eight-year-old Noah Noland said he earned money from the Tooth Fairy and by helping family members, and shared why he wanted to use that money to give back.
"Because I wanted to help the babies in need," Noland said.
Noland's grandmother, Derri Wandfluh, said he approached her about donating to the Safe Haven Baby Box, but he wanted to see the impact he was making.
"He came home from my sister's house and he had seen a brochure there and he was wanting to do it," Wandfluh said. "We were going to do it online, but he didn't understand. He wanted to see his money taken to the bank and he wanted to see where it was going to go."
Savannah Fire Chief, David Vincent, described Noland's visit as 'overwhelming' for the entire station.
"We were smiling ear to ear," Vincent said, "We always wonder about our youth and what they're gonna be and when a young man comes in and wants to give up his own money for a project like that, it's pretty overwhelming. So, we were excited."
Noland donated a total of $145 to the Savannah Safe Haven Baby Box.
Wandfluh shared more about her grandson.
"He really has a very kind heart, he really does," Wandfluh said. "He's your normal, typical little 8-year-old boy, but he does have a very kind heart."
