Catherine Newville and Heidi Goettemoeller, two students of the St. Joseph Catholic Academy, helped at the breakfast event on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Members of the St. Joseph Catholic Academy met for an annual prayer breakfast and fundraising event on Wednesday morning.

The event invited members of the community to mingle and hear from SJCA President Natalie Newville, Bishop James V. Johnston, Jr. and Lamar Hunt, Jr. - owner of the Kansas City Mavericks.

The speakers gave an update on the St. Joseph Catholic Academy, what they are doing in the community and the benefits of catholic schooling.

SJCA student, Catherine Newville, expressed the importance of the annual event.

"I think it's important to support our catholic schools because like, you know, God loves us, Jesus loves us," Newville said. "And I think it's important to be part of that community."

Heidi Goettemoeller, another SJCA student, shared why she wanted to help at the breakfast.

"It's just important to help out sometimes, you know," Goettemoeller said.

SJCA provides schooling from Pre-K through high school, encompassing five campuses: St. Gianna Early Childhood Center, Cathedral St. Joseph, St. Francis Xavier School, Saint James Catholic School and Bishop LeBlond High School.

President Newville shared the benefits of having Pre-K through high school catholic education.

"It's a really great opportunity for people to be in the same system from six weeks old all the way until they graduate high school," Newville said.

Newville said that enrollment is now open for the St. Joseph Catholic Academy and financial aid is available.
