US–UTAH-FLUORIDE BAN
Utah becomes the first state to ban fluoride in public drinking water
SUMMARY: Utah has become the first state to ban fluoride in public drinking water, despite widespread opposition from dentists and national health organizations. Republican Gov. Spencer Cox signed legislation late Thursday that bars cities and communities from deciding whether to add the mineral to their water systems. Fluoride strengthens teeth and reduces cavities by replacing minerals lost during normal wear and tear, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Utah lawmakers who pushed for a ban said putting fluoride in water was too expensive. Lawmakers in other states including Ohio, South Carolina and Florida also have made proposals to restrict fluoride in public water.

LT–HOMELAND SECURITY-MEXICO-VISIT
Noem ends her first visit to Latin America in Mexico to discuss crime and migration
SUMMARY: U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is visiting Mexico to cap off a tour to three Latin American nations to discuss immigration, crime and deportation. Noem’s first visit to the region comes as the region gains increasing importance to the Trump administration while it attempts to scale up deportation efforts and warn against migration north. As Noem visited El Salvador and Colombia, Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Guyana to meet with a number of Caribbean leaders. Noem is slated to meet Friday with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. Sheinbaum’s government has been working to offset tariffs lodged by the Trump administration, which economic forecasters say could thrust Mexico’s economy into a recession.
