Georgia election workers seek more penalties against Giuliani

Two former Georgia election workers who won a $148 million defamation judgment against Rudy Giuliani asked a judge Wednesday to penalize him even further for continuing to falsely accuse them of tampering with ballots during the 2020 presidential election.

Attorneys for Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, argued in a filing in a Washington, D.C. federal court that Giuliani has “brazenly” violated an agreement he signed to stop repeating the falsehoods, The alleged violations came in statements he made during two recent broadcasts of his nightly show on the social media platform X.

Brazil’s Lula welcomes China’s Xi for state visit

RIO DE JANEIRO | Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has welcomed China’s President Xi Jinping for a state visit at the Alvorada Palace in Brasilia, in the latest sign of deepening ties between the two countries that analysts say may accelerate as Donald Trump returns to the White House in 2025.

On Wednesday, the two leaders signed 37 agreements in areas ranging from trade to tourism, as well as in agriculture, industry, science and technology, communications, health, energy, culture and education.

China overtook the U.S. as Brazil’s biggest export market in 2009.

In remarks to journalists, Lula said that what China and Brazil do together “reverberates around the world.”
