Hundreds of frozen waffle products recalled
Hundreds of frozen waffle products sold in leading retailers including Walmart and Target are being recalled. The manufacturer says they could be contaminated with the listeria bacteria.
TreeHouse Foods announced the recall Friday and published a list of the products. It says consumers should throw them out or return them to the store for credit. Listeria can cause mild illness including fever and diarrhea or more serious problems such as stillbirths by pregnant women.
The recalled waffles are sold under a variety of names including Walmart’s Great Value, Target’s Good & Gather and private label brands sold by Food Lion, Kroger and Schnucks.

Indian high commissioner denies involvement in murder of Sikh leader
VANCOUVER, British Columbia | India’s high commissioner to Canada has denied any involvement in the murder of a Canadian Sikh leader who was killed in British Columbia last year even though the Canadian government has named him as a person of interest in the assassination.
Sanjay Kumar Verma, who was expelled last Monday along with five other Indian diplomats, said in an interview on CTV’s Question Period Sunday that the allegations are politically motivated. “Nothing at all,” Verma said when asked if he had any role in in the shooting of Hardeep Singh Nijjar who was killed outside a cultural center in Surrey, B.C., June 18, 2023.

Hurricane Oscar makes landfall in eastern Cuba
MIAMI | Hurricane Oscar has made landfall in eastern Cuba, an island beleaguered by a massive power outage, after striking the southeastern Bahamas. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm’s center arrived in the Cuban province of Guantanamo, near the city of Baracoa, on Sunday evening.
Its maximum sustained winds were near 80 mph. Forecasters said five to 10 inches of rain are expected across eastern Cuba through Tuesday, with some isolated locations getting up to 15 inches.
Oscar made landfall on Great Inagua island in the Bahamas earlier Sunday. It is expected to produce a dangerous storm surge that could translate into significant coastal flooding there and in other areas of the southeastern Bahamas.
