Woman who said she legally killed sex trafficker gets 11 years

KENOSHA, Wis. | A Milwaukee woman who said she was legally allowed to a kill a man because he was sexually trafficking her was sentenced Monday to 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to a reduced count of reckless homicide.

A Kenosha County judge sentenced Chrystul Kizer to 11 years of initial confinement followed by 5 years of extended supervision in the 2018 death of Randall Volar, 34. She was given credit for 570 days, about one and a half years, of time served.

The judge did not make Kizer eligible to participate in any early release programs at the Department of Corrections, and she should be released in 2033, according to the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s office.

Heavy rains hit Pakistan’s south as monsoon’s death toll rises to 209

ISLAMABAD | Officials say flash floods triggered by the latest monsoon rains have swept through streets in southern Pakistan and blocked a key highway in the north. The death toll from rain-related incidents has risen to 209 since July 1.

Officials say 14 people died across Punjab province in the past 24 hours.

Pakistan’s annual monsoon season runs from July through September. Scientists and weather forecasters have blamed climate change for heavier rains in recent years. The government has advised tourists to avoid affected areas.

Neighboring Afghanistan also has had rains and flood-related damage.

Trump is visiting battleground states this week

The former president and GOP nominee on Monday delivered a speech at a factory in Pennsylvania as he attempts to undercut the Democratic celebration with a jam-packed schedule. He is holding daily events in battleground states tied to subjects where Republicans think they hold an advantage, including the economy, crime and safety, national security and the border.
