College football weekend recap

By NewsPress Now

Pittsburg State 31, Missouri Western 20

The Griffons drop their third straight game, this time to the No. 10 team in Division II in Pitt State. Western hung in this game, even having the lead at 13-10 early in the third quarter. But the Gorillas put their foot on the gas and scored 21 unanswered in route to the victory. Western hits the road again next week, when it takes to Central Missouri for a contest with the Mules.

Northwest Missouri State 51, Washburn 34

An 0-2 start to the season has quickly been put in the rearview mirror for Northwest. The Bearcats notch their fourth win in a row on Saturday over the Ichabods. Junior running back Tank Young was the star of the show with 12 carries for 134 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon.

Benedictine 56,

Culver-Stockton 21

Benedictine has now won three consecutive games, while staying perfect on the road in 2024. The Ravens scored 42 points before Culver-Stockton could get on the scoreboard. Benedictine had 171 more yards of total offense in the game, with quarterback Jackson Dooley adding 281 yards through the air.

Kansas 31,

Arizona State 35

A classic back-and-forth battle till the very end, the Jayhawks drop their fourth consecutive game, and this one might have been the most heartbreaking. Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt completed a pass to Jordyn Tyson for the go-ahead touchdown with 16 seconds left in the ball game. The Jayhawks, though they had their best offensive performance of the season, still couldn’t come away with the win, and will look to bounce back in two weeks against Houston.
