Missouri Western 16,
Washburn 24
The Griffons drop their second game in a row to a formerly-winless Washburn team. Western went into Saturday’s game without star running back Brandon Hall, who was leading the MIAA in rushing heading into the weekend. Griffs had one touchdown on the day from Marrell Fountain, but saw most of their points come from field goals from Cody Watson, who went 3-4 on FG including a 52-yard field goal late in the first half.
Northwest Missouri State 14, Emporia State 9
A bout between the Bearcats and No. 11 Emporia State saw a flurry of turnovers on Saturday in Maryville. Eight turnovers made up the contest, including four interceptions from Northwest quarterback Chris Ruhnke. Regardless, the Bearcats still managed to muster a successful offensive drive when it mattered most. Ruhnke connected with wide receiver Luke Mathews for a go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter to propel the Bearcats.
Benedictine 27, Baker 24
An NAIA Top-25 showdown goes to the Ravens on Saturday in Atchison, Kansas. The Ravens jumped out to a 10-0 lead, lost the lead at 14-10 in the second quarter, but would outscore Baker 17-10 the rest of the way. Quarterback Jackson Dooley of Benedictine notched his shakiest performance of the year in terms of stats. Dooley went 15-31, but still managed 251 yards and two touchdowns, along with two interceptions.
Kansas 27, Texas Christian 38
The first game of the year for a relocated Kansas team at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City didn’t go as planned, as the Jayhawks drop their fourth game of the season after starting the year in the AP Top 25. Saturday was another woeful day for Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels, as he completed less than 50% of his throws on the day. The Jayhawks will hit the road to face Arizona State next before a two-week break in between games.
