Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek visited St. Joseph on Thursday during a campaign stop at local Republican headquarters.

Malek is facing opposition from five opponents on Aug. 6 for the Republican Primary Election. He said his message centers on giving back to the citizens of Missouri through a strong lost funds program, through MOBUCKS and also through his oversight of the MOScholars program.

Thursday was not Malek’s first trip to St. Joseph, as he visited St. Joseph Christian School earlier this year to talk about the importance of the MOScholars program, which is a program that puts donations specifically to private education, earning donors a tax credit.

“I think it’s a win-win for everybody, and it just gives parents a different choice,” Malek said in a March interview with News-Press NOW.

A graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, he has two master’s degrees. He was sworn in as the state’s 48th state treasurer on Jan. 17, 2023.

Vivek’s campaign priorities are promoting investments of taxpayers, opportunities for Missouri residents and Americans as a whole and fighting for conservative values.

He also heavily believes in the Second Amendment and is strongly anti-abortion.

Malek is facing off against Republicans Tina Goodrick, Andrew Koenig, Karan Pujji, Lori Rook and Cody Smith in the Aug. 6 primary. One Democrat, Mark Osmack, is also running.

The general election will take place Nov. 5.
