When it comes to things people are afraid of in the outdoors, venomous snakes top many fright lists. While it’s true people should always give venomous snakes space, it’s equally true that some of the things people fear about venomous snakes are based on things that simply aren’t true, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.

People can learn more about Missouri’s venomous snakes and separate myths from facts at the MDC virtual program “Venomous Snakes of Missouri” on July 9. This free online program will be from 2 to 3 p.m. and is open to all ages. Register at mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com.

At this event, MDC Naturalist Sam Grove will discuss venomous snake species found in Missouri and how to identify them. She will also discuss some of the falsehoods that have come to be associated with venomous snakes. This program will include a chat-based question-and-answer period where participants can interact with the presenters.
