ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- Members of the agriculture community took the spotlight at the 21st annual Farm City Breakfast Friday morning at Word of Life Church in St. Joseph.

The event presented by the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce and LifeLine Foods drew hundreds of attendees bright and early on Friday morning, all ready to network and celebrate the agriculture industry.

The program included a welcome from emcee Tom Brand, an invocation from Derek Vreeland of Word of Life Church, a speech from the president and CEO of LifeLine Foods, Kevin Kelly, a presentation of the first Farm Family of the Year award and a keynote speech from Kevin Wanzer.

Kelly says there's a key reason LifeLine keeps sponsoring the annual Farm City Breakfast.

"Many people don't understand it's the state of Missouri's largest industry by far, is agriculture," Kelly said. "And to be able to bring together farmers, producers, the agriculture-related businesses together for a celebration of ag is just something that we look forward to every year."

Kodi Bennett, a member of St. Joseph FFA, assisted at the breakfast. She shared her thoughts on Wanzer's presentation.

"I thought it was pretty entertaining and funny and a good way to get the message out there in a funny way," Bennett said.

National Agriculture Week begins on March 21, serving as another reminder to acknowledge the ag community.
