Election thoughts from the Messanie Street Philosopher

By Alonzo Weston
“Spring is sprung, the grass is ris, wonder who the new school board is?” Bag-Head sang as he walked up a Downtown street Monday morning.
Bag-Head Jheri, the Messanie Street Philosopher for the uninitiated, is a local street sage and commentator on social and political issues. His views are sometimes spot on.
I said sometimes.
“We won’t know until April 2 Bag,” I answered.
“Don’t know a lot of them folks but if that lady who stormed theCapitol on January 6 gets on it, look out. “Bag said. “And Kenny Reeder on the board too? Whoda thunk it?”
“I know Kenny. He is really a nice guy and a friend. I just don’t like his politics and some of his bedfellows like Jeff Roe,” I said.
“2024 could be da year that sees the fall of this country,” Bag said. “It looks like Donald Trump will be our president, a.k.a. dictator. Hate and greed will flood our streets”
“Geesh, I hope not,” I answered weakly.
“Bill Clinton had one indiscretion we know of and the churches and the country were ready to lynch him. Trump does more than all that and the churches embrace him. Obama would have been lynched, Bag said.
“Not that I wished for it but I was surprised there were no assassination attempts on Trump,” I asked.
“The folks who would do that are on his side,” Bag shot back.
“Hope you’re wrong,” I said.
“Well gotta go brother, and remember like Curtis Mayfield sang, ‘If there’s a hell below we all gonna go,’” Bag said. “Later.”
