KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sheila Thompson, 83, passed away on March 7, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on Nov. 3, 1940, in Keighley, West Yorkshire, England, to George and Winifred (O’Brien) Butler.

Her journey across the Atlantic began in 1962 after she married Derek Thompson and settled in the United States. Sheila found her home in St. Joseph in 1965.

Sheila graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance from Missouri Western State College in 1981. Her talent and dedication to her craft enabled her to inspire countless students through her years of teaching piano, sharing the joy of music with generations.

Sheila is survived by her children, Judith Morley (Rick) and David Thompson (Claudia); grandchildren, Lauren Morley, Brandon, and Ryan Thompson; brother, Farrell Butler; brother-in-law, Joe Neff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Margaret Varenhorst, Winifred Addyman, Patricia Hodgson, Colin Butler, and Eileen Neff.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate care provided by the staff at Wexford Place, Burlington Creek Senior Living, and the NorthCare Hospice House during Sheila’s final days.

Private Graveside Farewell Services and Inurnment under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to NorthCare Hospice House.
