Barbosa, Wanda J. 1947-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Wanda Jean (Atkinson) Barbosa, 78, of St. Joseph, returned to The Lord Saturday, April 26, 2025. Wanda was born April 6, 1947, in St. Joseph, to Frank W. Atkinson and Evelyn A. (O’Callaghan) Atkinson. She graduated from Benton High School and completed two years of business school at Gards Business School.

She would later marry the love of her life, Jesse Barbosa, on June 8, 1968, at St. Patrick’s Church, in St. Joseph, and later adopted their son, Patrick Barbosa. Wanda and Jesse shared 57 loving years of marriage together until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Evelyn Atkinson; brother, Franklin Atkinson Jr.; and sister-in- law, Rosie Atkinson.

Surviving family include husband of the home, Jesse Barbosa; son, Patrick (Beth) Barbosa; grandchildren, Mason (Erandy) Barbosa, Jude Barbosa and Melena Barbosa; and brother, Bill Atkinson (Ramona).

Family meant everything to her. She was the organizer and wanted to get it done!

Mass of Christian Burial for Wanda will be held Friday, May 2, 2025, 10 a.m. at Cathedral of St. Joseph with an Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery to follow.

Rosary 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel with a visitation to follow from 6 to 8 p.m. As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
