US-CARBON CAPTURE REDUCED ROUTE
Midwest carbon capture pipeline seeks additional time on permitting application in South Dakota
SUMMARY: Summit Carbon Solutions is requesting an extension for its permit application timeline in South Dakota. The company says it can make the current route work by eliminating branches of the route that face significant landowner opposition. It filed this extension request on Friday, and the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission is expected to decide during its meeting Tuesday afternoon. Summit says it wants to pursue good-faith negotiations with the state and landowners instead of pursuing legal action after the state’s eminent domain ban disrupted its route plans for the state.

US–PLANE CRASH-NEBRASKA
Small plane hit power line before crashing into the Platte River in Nebraska
SUMMARY: The National Transportation Safety Board says a small plane appears to have struck a power line before it crashed into the Platte River in Nebraska. Few details are available about the Friday evening crash because it is early in the NTSB investigation. The agency’s preliminary report is expected in a few weeks, but the final report identifying the cause likely won’t be done for more that a year. The Dodge County Sheriff’s office identified the three people killed in the crash as 43-year-old Daniel Williams of Moundridge, Kansas; 50-year-old Jeff Bittinger; and 48-year-old Randy Amrein. Both Bittinger and Amrein lived in Fremont, Nebraska.

US–IMMIGRATION-DRIVER’S LICENSES
Some GOP states are targeting driver’s licenses issued to immigrants illegally in the US
SUMMARY: A growing number of Republican-led states are taking aim at driver’s licenses issued by other states to people in the U.S. illegally. At least 19 states and the District of Columbia issue licenses to drivers regardless of whether they can prove their lawful presence in the U.S. Now lawmakers in Tennessee and Wyoming have joined Florida in passing measures seeking to invalidate such licenses. Similar legislation has been proposed in at least a half-dozen additional states. It’s unclear, however, whether the measures contain more symbolism or substance. The Florida law has been interpreted to apply only to certain licenses issued by two other states.
