US–ELECTION 2026-IOWA-GOVERNOR

DESCRIPTION: Iowa looked a lot different in 2010, when Kim Reynolds was first elected to statewide office. Reynolds is the first eligible incumbent governor in the U.S. to opt out of a 2026 race, leaving Iowa suddenly headed toward a political shake-up in a midterm election year. Reynolds’ surprise announcement last week that she would not seek a third term as governor after nearly a decade in the office set Des Moines abuzz with who might jump in to a newly wide open primary race, the first for Iowa Republicans since 2010.

UNITEDHEALTH-GUIDANCE CUT

UnitedHealth cuts 2025 forecast after dealing with first-quarter care use spike

SUMMARY: A surprising Medicare Advantage cost spike helped push UnitedHealth into a rare deep dive Thursday, after the health care giant chopped its 2025 forecast following a worse-than-expected first quarter. The company’s stock price sank by about $130 Thursday, its worst one-day performance in more than 25 years. Its first-quarter report also rattled other health insurance stocks.
