Work on I-29 bridges in Andrew and Atchison counties could cause traffic delays.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- Work on Interstate 29 bridges in Andrew and Atchison counties is getting underway later this month.

Deck repairs will begin on the Mill Creek bridges south of Atchison County Route Z near Corning on Monday, April 28. Crews from Emery Sapp & Sons will begin work in the driving lanes in both directions. Once work on the shoulder and driving lanes is completed, crews will switch to work in the passing lanes.

Work will include replacing the bridge deck and approaches and upgrading the guardrail. During construction, the interstate will be narrowed to one lane at each northbound and southbound bridge and a 15-foot width restriction will be in place. Motorists should expect delays.

Work on the Atchison County bridges is expected to be finished in mid-July. Crews then will move on to work on the northbound and southbound Mill Creek bridges in Andrew County near Amazonia.

All work is expected to be completed by December.
