ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — National Tax Day has arrived, leaving procrastinators just a few hours to file 2024 returns.

Taxes must be mailed by midnight on April 15 to be considered on time. Any taxpayer who requires additional time to file can request an extension from the Internal Revenue Service. The deadline is able to be pushed back to Oct. 15 by using Form 4868.

Taxes can be filed either electronically or through a physical form sent through the mail and postmarked by April 15.

"I would liked to have done it (taxes) on the 14th rather than the 15th," local taxpayer LJ Nold said. "But I didn't, so I wanted to make sure that it got in the mail today."

While it is recommended that people pay their taxes upon filing them, a payment plan can be set up by consulting with the IRS in advance.
