Municipal Judge Ted Elo dies at age 65

Theodore "Ted" Elo, a longtime city attorney and St. Joseph's Municipal Judge, has passed away at age 65.

City officials announced that Elo passed away on Sunday. A native of St. Joseph, Elo took the position of assistant city attorney in 2003 before being elected as municipal judge in 2022.

"Judge Elo made a lasting impact through his commitment to justice and service. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time," Mayor John Josendale said.

As assistant city attorney, Elo worked to reduce the number of unsafe buildings and improve the enforcement of code violations, while also strengthening partnerships for St. Joseph and regional businesses.

A gathering will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Internment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in St Joseph, Missouri.
