United Way brings way discussion panel “Taste of United Way”

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW)--Each month, the discussion panel will feature different local agencies. The panel will summarize what the group does for the community, how funds are being utilized and address gaps the group may not be aware of.
“Taste of United Way is a series that we used to do, I think our last one was March of 2020," United Way President Kylee Strough said. "So after a five-year hibernation, we're bringing it back."
The series will kick off with “The Caring Power of Community: the People, Programs and Purpose of United Way."
"It offered community members an opportunity to come to United Way and talk about community issues, learn what agencies were doing to address community issues in needs," Strough said. "Learn a little bit more about our partner agency network, about United Way and, ultimately, how the dollars so many in this community gift to United Way are making a difference in people's lives”
St. Joseph residents will experience face-to-face conversations about resources that they would not be able to research online.
"I think any time you can add a face to a name and an organization, it starts to form that relationship, but also through Taste of United Way, there's some open dialog that happens," Strough said. "Sometimes you can submit a question on chat or on Google and you get the answer and you're like, 'you didn't understand my question at all.' You can eliminate a lot of that in person with conversation. So if Google is doing it for you, that's great. But if you want to really get to know what opportunities are out there and what resources, and you really thrive on human connection, this is a way to do that."
The first session will be held Friday, March 28 with lunch being served at 11:45 a.m. and the discussion beginning at noon.
Attendees can reserve their plate by visiting stjosephunitedway.org or calling the office at 816-364-2381.
