Robert Earl Jones, 71, St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025. He was born Jan. 15, 1954, in St. Joseph, to James and Marion (Weitlich) Jones.

Robert was a 1973 graduate of Lafayette High School, where he was an excellent marksman in J-ROTC and a popular guy – because he was one of the first in his class to get a drivers license. He also was a four-time winner of the Ugly Man fundraising competition at Lafayette, a coveted position!

Robert earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice at Missouri Western State College, where he was on the Dean’s Honor Roll, a senator in the Student Government, and a member of Lambda Chi fraternity. Robert mowed lawns, worked at Wonder Bread Bakery and Montgomery Ward during college.

He then earned his master’s degree in criminal justice at Central Missouri State University. He later worked at Riverbend Treatment Center for 11 years until retirement.

Robert loved to bowl and had a 300 game and an 800 series. He also was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He loved to fish as well, thoroughly enjoying annual fishing trips to Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his stepsister, Karen Bravo (Steve); aunt and uncle, Richard and Deborah Weitlich; numerous cousins; and longtime friends, Tony Cox, Jerry Perkins, Randy Cooper, Buddy Merritt, Mark Antle, Dan Reid, Darry Langdon, and Wally Patrick.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, St. Peter Lutheran Church. Interment Savannah Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
