Fireworks shop opens in anticipation of Chiefs Super Bowl win

A local fireworks shop is helping fans prepare for a potential Chiefs win at Super Bowl LIX, by opening their doors for the weekend.

PJ’s Fireworks, located at 20830 State Highway K opened its doors on Friday, Feb. 7 and will be open through Sunday, Feb. 9 for eager Chiefs fans. This is the first time the store will be open on Super Bowl Sunday.

“We've never opened on the actual day, so we're going to give it a try,” Owner PJ Kovac said.

The fireworks shop is ready to meet customer demands over the weekend and through the Fourth of July holiday.

Kovac said the store received most of its shipments from overseas suppliers earlier in the year since they anticipated tariffs. 

A Country Club resident decided to buy fireworks for the first time because she expects a third Super Bowl win for the Chiefs. 

“I’m buying them for a definite Chiefs win,” Ann Glidewell said. “We just have a really good team.” 

Kovac said he noticed more people purchasing fireworks when the Chiefs began to have more postseason success. 

“A lot of people would call and just buy stuff every weekend, and if the Chiefs won, they shot it,” he said. “And so it pretty much started when Mahomes got in there.” 

PJ’s Fireworks is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

“I just hope everybody has a good time, and I hope the Chiefs win,” Kovac said.
