Patrons at Pivotal Point are spending time learning about important life skills to get back on their feet.

Learning basic needs like cooking a meal is important for positive development, said Pivotal Point Executive Director Rick Lipira. Pivotal Point is transitional housing offered to families, singles and youth trying to overcome homelessness and pursue self-sufficiency.

"They're learning how to cook and fend for themselves, and how to shop for proper groceries," said Lipira. "So these little things are all part of the big picture."

"The big picture" meaning being able to support, encourage and get patrons to learn to be self-dependent as they work on getting back up on their feet.

Lipira said patrons at Pivotal Point are all required to attend a life skills class weekly to learn more aspects to help them succeed.

"That could be anything from budgeting. It could be anything to car repair," Lipira said. "They're learning how to cook for themselves and how to run to a certain grocery store to buy. And just how to take care of themselves."
