Laura Lee Ripper, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, at an Olathe, Kansas, care facility. She was born June 17, 1932, in St. Joseph, to Hattie and Elroy Hiskey. She married Daryl Ripper on March 1, 1952, in St. Joseph.
Her family was her greatest pride and joy. She loved being a homemaker and taking care of others. In her younger years, she worked at Big Smith and Stetson Hat Company as a seamstress. She enjoyed fishing and camping with her late husband, Daryl. She loved to dance and go to the casino. She was a very loving and caring person, with a great sense of humor, and occasionally stubborn and feisty.
Laura was preceded in death by husband, Daryl Ripper; son, Mitchell Ripper; her parents; brothers, Edward, Galen, Walter and Wayne Hiskey; sisters, Verla Jean Newton, Florence Adams, Mary Iva Banks and Marie Falkenbach.
Survivors include daughters, Joni Ripper, of St. Joseph, and Brenda Ripper (Ray Olivarez), of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Joshua Silvey (Bernadette Asher), Leisha Lewis, Nate (Susan) Rainez, Nichole (Gary) Sumner, Heather (Miles) Curran, Courtney Ripper (Jordan Lester), Corey (Shelby) Ripper and Tyler (Samantha) Reynolds; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. followed by the service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, at the Rupp Funeral Home. Darrel and Marsha Ashlock officiating. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Olathe Health Hospice House.
