WATHENA, Kan. – Gerald “Jerry” Oren Pritchett, 80, passed away peacefully on Oct. 29, 2024. His family was by his side at his home in Wathena, Kansas. Jerry was born on June 14, 1944, to Dorothy (Van Vacter) and Charles Pritchett.
At the tender age of 13, tragedy struck his family when his father, Charles, was killed in an automobile accident by a drunk driver. The years were hard but the siblings grew up with a strong work ethic and a strong bond.
Jerry was a lifelong resident of the St. Joseph area. He worked at Lover’s Lane Seitz for 40 years. He had a great love of the outdoors. In his younger years he could be found deer hunting, fishing, and raising horses. He told many a tall tale about his hunting trips and the time with his friends. He was a member of Faith United Baptist Church.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and the mother of his children, Patricia (Good) West; his daughter, Brenda Owens; sister and brother-in-law, Janice (Pritchett) and Bill Myers; and brothers, Charles “Chuck” and Donald Pritchett.
He is survived by son, Marty (Tamarah) Pritchett, of Wathena; and four granddaughters, Ashleigh (Matthew) Green, of Grain Valley, Missouri, Corey (Jordan) Bauman, of Wathena, Mardi Alysse (Taylor) Clark, of Lenexa, Kansas, and Tiffany (Lucas) Farr, of St. Joseph; 10 great-grandchildren, Addisyn, Braelen, Ryker, and Brantlie Farr, Presleigh Green, Teagan, Silas, and Reid Bauman, and Charlotte (Charli) and Jackson Clark; stepdaughter, Rachel Arrow, of Platte City, Missouri, and her children, Kaidyn and Isaac O’Neal.
Jerry is survived by brother, Robert (Terry) Pritchett, and sister-in-law Marilyn Pritchett, both of St. Joseph.
Special thank you to Donna Thornton, Bill Atkinson, Doniphan County Home Health, and NEK Multi County Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Jerry and his family.
