CAMERON, Mo. – Robert Edward Worland, 86, passed away Oct. 21, 2024. He was born Feb. 13, 1938, in St. Joseph, to Ira and Glenna (Wood) Worland.
He was raised in the Cameron, Missouri, area where he graduated from high school in 1956.
Bob married Nancy Zimmerman on Aug. 6, 1961. They made their home in Cameron where Bob served as manager for Cameron Coop, later working at Western Missouri Correctional Center as utility officer and fire arms trainer.
Robert loved traveling with his family, quiet evenings with a book and his pipe, and collecting guns, particularly muzzeloader rifles. He built many muzzleloaders by hand in his basement workshop. His favorite vacation was to a small town in Indiana for the annual competition of the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association, where he was immersed in his hobby and with plenty of time for his family. He was a voracious reader throughout his life, reading at least a few books per week. A common scene was him sitting in the living room, puffing on a pipe, book in hand. Often there would be a snot-nosed kid in his lap. In later years, he enjoyed going on daily drives with his wife, Nancy, to Wallace State Park and on various routes through Cameron.
He had a subtle smile and a free, musical laugh that would make everyone else in the room smile. He was a quiet, thoughtful, man, but also had a mischievous sense of humor. He was kind and considerate. He sacrificed much for us, his family, working a sometimes stressful job for long hours. Yet he made time for us. He taught us the value of hard work and a sense of right and wrong, and set an example that allowed us to believe in ourselves. He made a positive impression on his family and this world that will last for generations.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Nancy.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Mitch) Robinson, Weatherby, Missouri; four sons, Ed (Debbie) Worland, Kidder, Missouri, Mike Worland (Allison Gambel), Northfield, Minnesota, John (Courtney) Worland, and Tom (Natalie) Worland, both of Cameron; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
