The Kiwanis Club of St. Joseph hosted their 10th annual take defense training course on Saturday morning.

From 10 a.m. to noon, local women from ages 12 and up were invited to learn self-defense techniques.

The defense class, in collaboration with the Ali Kemp foundation and the YWCA, was meant to empower women and teach them valuable strategies.

Erin Bradley, a member of the Kiwanis Club and committee chair for the T.A.K.E. event, explained more about the purpose of the event.

“And it’s primarily just to help educate women not only on how to defend themselves, but also on how to de-escalate a situation, how to avoid situations, how to be aware of your surroundings,” Bradley said. “Just all the important things that I feel every woman in this community needs to know.”

The course was free to attend.
