The St. Joseph School District has spent the past few months reviewing 10 books challenged by the community to determine if they were fit to be on library shelves, and now, only three from that list remain undecided.

“If I Was Your Girl” by Meredith Russo, “All Boys Aren’t Blue” by George M. Johnson and “Looking for Alaska” by John Green are still awaiting their fate as a committee continues its review process.

The St. Joseph School District Board of Education votes whether to approve or reject the committee’s recommendation. So far, all seven books have been approved to stay in school libraries. “Tricks” by Ellen Hopkins requires parent permission, but it still is available to be checked out.

The other books retained with no restrictions include:

  • “The ABCs of LGBT+” by Ash Hardwell
  • “And Tango Makes Three” by Justin Richrdson
  • “Thirteen Reasons Why” by Jay Asher
  • “Crank” by Ellen Hopkins
  • “This Book is Anti-Racist” by Tiffany Jewell
  • “The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison
