Annual parade revisits for South Side Fall Festival

A little rain didn’t stop St. Joseph residents from heading out to the South Side Fall Festival parade Saturday morning.
The annual parade accompanies the South Side Fall Festival, a weekend event that takes place in Hyde Park. Floats and vehicles of all kinds traveled along King Hill Avenue to bring joy, and candy, to spectators lining the streets.
Addie Snodgrass, a junior at Benton High School and member of the Benton Dance team, walked in the parade. Snodgrass shared her excitement to be in the parade and the opportunity to connect with her community.
“It’s been so fun just supporting Benton,” Snodgrass said. “I just, I love it so much. Like it’s such a big opportunity just to be a part of this whole community.”
Snodgrass said that she attended the parade many times growing up.
“When I was little, I would come get candy from the big kids,” she said. “Just looking up to them.”
Now that she is one of the “big kids,” Snodgrass is happy to do the same for younger kids.
“It’s such an honor to be just a big role model, like, I just love it so much,” Snodgrass said.
The parade began at Green Hills Grocery, traveled north along King Hill Avenue and ended at Missouri Avenue.
The South Side Fall Festival will continue through the weekend until Sunday Sept. 22 at 4 p.m.
