Kansas 28, West Virginia 32
The Jayhawks drop their third game in a row after starting the season in the AP Top 25. Against the Mountaineers, Kansas suffered its most heartbreaking loss this season, when WVU quarterback Garrett Greene connected with Rodney Gallagher for a go-ahead touchdown with 26 seconds left in the game. The Jayhawks will look to regroup next week in its first home game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium against TCU.
Missouri Western 27,
Emporia State 30
The Griffons had a chance to upset the No. 13 team in Division II in Emporia State on the road. In overtime and on 4th and 1, the Griffons needed a field goal to tie and force a second overtime, but instead decided to go for it. Running back Jayden Williams slipped out of the backfield and found himself wide open for what would have been the game-winning score, but Williams saw the pass bounce off his hands for an incompletion, ending the game and sealing the win for the Hornets.
Northwest Missouri State 59. Missouri Southern 0
Any hopes of Missouri Southern throttling down the momentum of the Bearcats would be crushed very quickly. Northwest scored 21 points in the first quarter, and would steadily add to its lead while keeping the Lions off the board for the shutout win. The Bearcats topped their rushing performance last week for a season-high 178 yards on the ground on Saturday.
Benedictine 45,
St. Ambrose (IA) 14
Ravens’ quarterback Jackson Dooley continues to assert himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the NAIA, and Saturday was just another addition to his case. Dooley torched the St. Ambrose defense for 451 yards and five touchdowns on just 23 completions. Benedictine returns home next Saturday for a bout with Baker at 1 p.m.
