With construction well underway at the Frederick Avenue location for St. Joseph’s first QuikTrip, the popular store’s anticipated opening date is slowly coming into focus.

A QuikTrip official confirmed that the 5,300-square-foot store is expected to open in late January 2025, narrowing down a previous time frame eyed for early next year.

St. Joseph will join a list of 56 other Missouri cities with a QuikTrip store when it opens at 4312 Frederick Ave. Currently, the closest store is located roughly 30 miles away in Platte City. No official opening date in January has been confirmed yet.

Benton High School student-athlete Connor Presto said QuikTrip is a must-stop for him when traveling with family for baseball and basketball each week. He’s looking forward to having one within a closer proximity.

“It’ll be better now because we usually go to Kansas City for QuikTrip,” he said.

Presto views QuikTrip as a step above many other convenience stores. He said he’ll definitely be making frequent trips when it opens its doors, especially when he gets his license.

QuikTrip site plans released by the city in early June show the store will have one 36-foot-wide opening built for vehicles to both enter and exit the store from Frederick Avenue.

A portion of eastbound Frederick Avenue in front of the store will have to be widened to allow for a right-turn lane to be constructed, a component designed to help ease eastbound traffic flow.

St. Joseph resident Linda Crubaugh is looking forward to having a store in the city so she can use her Price Chopper rewards card to earn gas discounts. QuikTrip allows customers with a Price Chopper rewards card to save 5 cents per gallon for every 100 points accumulated from Price Chopper store purchases.

“We use that one all the time,” Crubaugh said. “So that’s kind of nice because before I didn’t really care about my points.”

As part of construction, a new sidewalk will also be built along the east side of the property to boost foot traffic and connect it with the existing sidewalk on Frederick Avenue.

Approximately 50 parking spots will be constructed on the property, with store entrances located on the east, west and north sides along with two tables out front where patrons can relax.

When it comes to fuel pump arrangements, the convenience store will include 10 dual-facing gasoline pumps, allowing for up to 20 drivers to get gas at one time. Fueling stations will be located north of the property directly in front of the main entrance.
